Healt alert
Attention Parents: It has been brought to the attention of the Center your child may have been exposed to a flu better known as a stomach bug.
What is the Flu?
Influenza, or “the flu,” is a highly contagious viral infection of the respiratory tract (nose, throat and lungs). Sometimes people refer to the flu as a “stomach bug.” Flu symptoms tend to develop quickly, usually 1 to 4 days after a person is exposed to the flu virus.
Flu symptoms include:
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Extreme tiredness
  • Dry cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle aches
If your child or children show signs of any or all of these symptoms please do not bring them to the center; an effected child could spread the virus.
How does it spread?
A person infected with the flu virus will typically spread the germs by touching surfaces like door knobs, stool handles and classroom toy’s.
If your child or children experience any of the above symptoms please consult their pediatrician. Those who suffer from the illness may be ill for approximately 7 to 10 days, with 5 to 6 days of limited activity and about 3 days of bed rest to recover.
Vaccinated Against the Flu?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone 6 months and older should get vaccinated against the flu every year. This recommendation is the same even during years when the vaccine composition (the viruses the vaccine protects against) remains unchanged from the previous season.
Infants younger than 6 months old are too young to be vaccinated. Protect them by getting yourself, other children and family members, and close contacts vaccinated. This will help prevent spreading the virus to infants.
How serious is the Flu in Children?
Children have the highest chance of getting sick from the flu and often spread the germs throughout their communities. Influenza is one of the leading causes of infectious disease hospitalizations among young children. During bad flu seasons parents please help us help you.
What we are doing to prevent the spread of the Flu?
Because on nearly 100 children die in the United States from influenza and its complications every year; our staff will increase the hand washing time. We will also provide Kleenex so that every area of the center will have tissue. Extra cleaning time will be spent on the center and Lysol will be sprayed throughout the day; we will take temperatures throughout the day also.

Watching what not to wear was an eye opener to a lot of providers. It is important that providers present themselves as professionals at all times; this means in charater and dress. If I was a parent and came to a facility where the providers was dressed in heels and party clothing I asure you my child would not be attending. Or if I came  into a facility and the director greeted me and looked like she had been asleep; wearing wrinkcled sweats and a summer shirt. There are certain colors to wear to an interview and certain clothing to wear on the job. Learning which clothing to wear should be in the employees handbook and discussed in monthly staff meetings.

1. When the teacher took upon herself to highlight and post on the door the information that she thought was needed she violated the confidentiality of the mother and the family.
2. No provider is to take information outside of the center. Talking about the student and calling the student name is a violation.
3. No, that is a HIPPA violation and something that the mother should do.
4. The mother and her spouse if she has one.
5. Sometimes it could be of help if the teacher include the children in with welcoming a student with special needs. But for the most part it should taught as part of the every day curriculum then the children would be prepared when the time come.
6.The teacher should have explain to Eric that here we don't bring toy's but we are going to let you have elmo until you feel save with us and know that we love you. She could even have special toys that she use for just this type of situation were she could redirect and make the transition smooth.
7. That's a no - no, it is not acceptable.
8. the teacher would be called in and put on a 2week suspension.
9. I would try by meeting with the mother and showing her our policy so she would know this that happen is against the center's policy. Then I would let her know that action has been took correcting the teacher, and ask her if there was anything else I could do to rectify the situation? Even give her a week free if it was my center.
10. If there was another teacher I would put him in another class and see if I could work with the school, if there was no other class I would remove him and file a grievance on the school.
